Burton Latimer Medical Centre Location and Hours
Until the 1890s Burton Latimer had no official health care provision and, for those with serious medical problems, they had to be taken to Kettering for treatment. However, in the 1890s a Dr Herbert Burland (based in Finedon and Meeting Lane) opened a part-time surgery in Washpit Farm in the southern part of the town which continued until 1917.
With the continuing post-war population growth, more and more pressure was put on local medical services. Eventually, land was acquired on the south side of Higham Road and a new Health Centre opened there in 1970.
This was a huge improvement on previous facilities which had been in the town. In earlier times, a small surgery at Osborne House was open for part of the week and it was not uncommon to see queues of patients waiting outside in all weathers for their turn.
In the 21st century, Burton Latimer is a thriving light industrial town with many high-profile national companies such as the Weetabix food company, Shield aluminium and Abbeyboard based there. It is also the location of the first wind farm in Northamptonshire, Burton Wold Wind Farm operated by Your Energy.
